Croswell is a small farming community about four miles west of Lake Huron. It is a beautiful area and we enjoyed the quiet nature of the town. A large sugar plant dominates the landscape of the town. It also dominates the smell!! It is actually a sugar beet factory that extracts sugar from the beet. It smelled like burnt penut butter some times and like manure quite a bit of the time. The church folks told us that Croswell is called the armpit of Michigan!
Pastor Eckelbarger is a great man who is working faithfully at Community Baptist. The people worked hard at inviting for the meeting. We did have several visitors out throughout the week. On Friday night the local high school, which is right next door to the church, had their homecoming football game. We all commented that we sure wished all those cars were there to come to the revival!
Througout the week we enjoyed getting to know so many sweet people. Many of these folks drive 20-30 miles to attend the church and yet they would stay for an hour after most of the services just fellowshipping with us and others. One of the highlights of the week was sinning a quartet with another set of brothers, Bob and Paul Wagner.
These guys definitely held their own with the loud Herbster voices! It was great to see another set of brothers serving the Lord and even singing together.
The people commented through the week about what a joy it was to have us at the church, but I believe we are the ones who are privileged. We don't deserve the opportunities that God gives, but we sure are thankful for churches like this one who give us the joy of serving!
